Tenemos nuevo cover de David Cook!

En el show del domingo 10 de noviembre en el Encore Event Center de Freehold, NJ, David cantó "Secret Garden" canción que pertenece a Bruce Springsteen.
Quizás fue una forma de homenajear a "El Jefe" ya que Nueva Jersey es su ciudad natal. Quién sabe. De todas formas, aqui está el video para que lo disfruten!

Reemplazará David Cook a Austin Winkler cantante de la banda Hinder?

David Cook ganador de la séptima temporada de American Idol fue contactado por los integrantes de la banda de "hard rock" Hinder para ser el reemplazo de Austin Winkler, su cantante de, quien recientemente entró en rehabilitación por segunda vez, según supo The Hollywod Reporter. Cook rechazó la oferta, para poder seguir trabajando en su propia música, aunque dijo haber estado "muy interesado" en el reemplazo.
"David estaba al tope de nuestra lista" contó Kevin "Chief" Zaruk, manager de la banda, perteneciente a Chief Music Management, a The Hollywood Reporter. Cook, el favorito, no fue el único [American] Idol contactado por la banda, James Durbin [Décima Temporada] estuvo también en la lista, reveló Zaruk "Nos hubiera encantado tener a cualquiera de los dos pero no pudimos congeniar los tiempos" [....]
En cuanto a [David] Cook, The Hollywood Reporter pudo saber que tiene otra oferta en la mesa: Un contrato de grabación con [el sello discográfico] Verve, perteneciente al grupo Universal Music y dirigido por el veterano productor David Foster, quien ha trabajado su cuota con los American Idol [....]. [David] Cook está "considerando" los términos del acuerdo con la discográfica, reveló una fuente.
El señor Cook no ha respondido al pedido de comentarios que le realizara The Hollywood Reporter.

  COCINANDO UNA TORMENTA MUSICAL

El estar cuatro años en el foco de atención no hizo que David Cook cambiara en lo más mínimo. Eunice Lim se pone al día con todo lo que respecta a este apasionado y amigable músico durante su primera visita a nuestro país.[1]

Mientras yo entraba a una de las salas del Ink Bar, David se levantó de su asiento para luego darme un cálido apretón de manos mostrando unos ojos brillantes y una sonrisa amplia. Inmediatamente quedé encantada con él. Debajo de esa confianza y frescura de rockero yace una autenticidad inconfundible que momentáneamente me hizo olvidar que él fue ese chico que hace cuatro años compitió en el escenario de American Idol, quien asombró al público semana tras semana con sus singulares covers, y quien eventualmente surgió como el ganador de la séptima temporada.

Habiendo conseguido dos exitosos álbumes, incluyendo uno que llegó a ser platino, la carrera post-Idol de David muestra ser exitosa. Este compositor y cantante de 30 años se enfoca ahora en cosas aún más grandes mientras emprende un nuevo capítulo en su viaje musical como artista independiente. En esta entrevista nos cuenta todo, desde sus inspiraciones creativas hasta la comida que lo hace sentir mejor.

¡FELICITACIONES POR TU ÁLBUM CERTIFICADO COMO PLATINO EN SINGAPUR!

¡Muchas gracias! Es increíble. Cuando apenas empecé a tocar en una banda, ni siquiera me imaginaba que alguna vez podría llegar a obtener una placa de oro en otro país. Es bastante surrealista, pero he tenido la fortuna en los últimos meses de poder ir a lugares increíbles, y he podido agregar a Singapur a esa lista este año. La placa es algo de mucha importancia y me siento muy honrado.

RECIENTEMENTE TE MUDASTE A NASHVILLE. ¿QUÉ FUE LO QUE TE HIZO MUDARTE ALLÍ?

Me está gustando mucho el estar allí. Nashville es una ciudad increíble, y suele recibir el apodo de ser la capital de la música country, pero allí se ve una gran variedad de música y de gran calidad. Las razones por las que me mudé son varias... algunas relacionadas con lo profesional, otras con lo personal. Allí en Nashville se encuentra una comunidad creativa de la cual realmente quería formar parte. Creo que al ir creciendo, el vivir en LA (Los Ángeles) me queda muy lejos de mi familia. Mi familia se encuentra en Indiana y en la ciudad de Kansas, por lo que Nashville queda a más o menos 10 horas de distancia en automóvil.

UNA DE LAS CANCIONES QUE ESTUVISTE ESTRENANDO EN LOS ÚLTIMOS SHOWS SE LLAMA “FROM HERE TO ZERO” (De aquí a cero), Y CUANDO LA CANTASTE EN EL SUMMERFEST EN TAMPA TE PUSISTE UN POCO EMOCIONAL. ¿ES ESTA CANCIÓN MUY PERSONAL PARA TI?

¡Me acuerdo de eso! Hacía calor, estaba sudando y ¡tenía laca para el pelo en los ojos! (ríe) Es una canción de la cual me siento orgulloso. La escribí con Zac Maloy, con quien también escribí “Lie” y “Life on the Moon”. Tenemos una muy buena relación en cuanto a la creatividad. La canción en sí... se trata de dos personas contra el mundo, y su amor durará hasta que el reloj marque las cero horas.

HABIÉNDOTE SEPARADO DE TU COMPAÑÍA DISCOGRÁFICA HACE UNOS MESES, ¿SENTÍS QUE AHORA TENÉS MÁS CONTROL CREATIVO SOBRE TU MÚSICA?

Sí. Creo que ahora el proceso creativo es diferente, y lo estoy disfrutando mucho. Me acabo de reinventar a mí mismo emocionalmente en el proceso creativo, y es genial poder sentir que puedo hacer lo que quiero... es un sentimiento poderoso. Simplemente me estoy enfocando en aprovechar este sentimiento que tengo y ver qué sale.

¿QUÉ DESAFÍOS TE IMAGINAS QUE HABRÁ SIENDO UN ARTISTA INDEPENDIENTE?

Siempre hay desafíos. Pienso que el desafío innato que tiene un artista independiente es el asegurarse de que puede hacer todo lo que necesite hacer. Sin embargo, para mi lo más imprescindible es tratar de estar de gira lo más seguido posible y tener contacto con mis fans. Diría que hasta el momento en que no quede aliento en mi ser, nada podrá reemplazar a la experiencia de tocar en vivo. Así que eso es en lo que trato de enfocarme.

DEBIDO A QUE SINGAPUR TIENE UNA CULTURA CENTRADA EN LA COMIDA, NOS PREGUNTAMOS: ¿TIENES ALGUNA COMIDA CON LA QUE TE SIENTAS MEJOR?

Soy bastante goloso. Galletas, tortas, pasteles... no puedo parar de comerlos. (ríe) Me gustan los buenos postres.

¿HAS PROBADO ALGO DE LA COMIDA DE AQUÍ?

Sí. La primer noche que estuvimos aquí, fuimos a probar cangrejo con pimienta negra y cangrejo con chile dulce. Me gustó mucho... pero había una cosa que pensé que me iba a gustar y que en realidad no me gustó para nada: costillas con salsa de ciruela. Creí que me iba a gustar porque vengo de Kansas y soy un gran fanático de las barbacoas (asados), pero no me gustó.

ADICIONAL: ¡Qué gracioso! Cuando le preguntamos si había probado “durian”, él entendió “orina”, provocando que todos los que estábamos en la sala nos riéramos a carcajadas. Ciertamente lo entretuvimos con esto ya que le tomó un tiempo reponerse de tanta risa. Y sí, probó nuestra tristemente célebre fruta local (durian), aunque no parece ser muy aficionado a ella.

DE TODAS LAS CANCIONES QUE HAS ESCRITO, ¿CUÁL ES LA QUE MÁS RESUENA CONTIGO?

Del primer álbum con RCA, una canción llamada “Permanent”. El hecho de poder hablar tan abiertamente sobre mi hermano [en mi música] fue muy terapéutico. Cuando escribo canciones, las escucho en mi cabeza de determinada manera, y muchas veces.... el sonido cambia en algún lugar del proceso. No es que es algo malo; es solo una progresión natural. Que yo recuerde, “Permanent” fue la única canción que sonó en mi cabeza de la misma manera en que terminó sonando en la realidad. Fue un momento muy poderoso y de reivindicación durante el proceso de crear el primer álbum.

¿HAY UN NUEVO ÁLBUM EN EL CAMINO?

¡Por supuesto! Estamos escribiendo para un nuevo álbum, y también estoy disfrutando el proceso creativo, ya sea para mí mismo o para otros artistas.

¿CUÁL ES LA DIRECCIÓN MUSICAL PARA ESTE NUEVO ÁLBUM?

Estoy tratando de mejorar y actualizar el sonido un poco, pero soy un guitarrista... y siempre lo seré, así que no dejaré de lado la guitarra. Creo que estamos en un momento muy emocionante de la música. Hay muchas y diferentes vías por donde me puedo hacer escuchar, y ahora estoy tratando de encontrar la mejor fórmula para mi.

 ¿Quieres ser escuchado? Toma el consejo del ganador de American Idol, David Cook: Si te dan la oportunidad, aprovéchala.

En mayo del 2008, David Cook se convirtió en el ganador de la séptima temporada de American Idol, siendo el primer ganador con influencias del rock. A la semana siguiente, David rompió el récord de Bon Jovi al obtener la mayor cantidad de debuts en la lista del Billboard's Hot Digital Songs. Luego de dos álbumes post-Idol, Cook pasó por lo mismo que pasaron los primeros cinco ganadores masculinos: su compañía discográfica los deja después de sufrir un bajo volúmen de ventas. Sin embargo, para Cook,  American Idol lo ayudó a mantenerse en el ambiente de la música, permitiéndole debutar su canción más reciente y llevándolo a Singapur, por primera vez, para promocionar la 12ava temporada del programa. A continuación le mostramos las 7 cosas que Cook hizo bien.

[1] Ayuda a la mano que te alimenta.

American Idol sufrió el rating más bajo en el último final de temporada. Ahora cuenta con la ayuda de estrellas de rock como Cook para atraer televidentes. “Me encanta mi relación con Idol”, comenta Cook. “Me ofrecieron una increíble oportunidad y, como buen embajador, quiero ayudar a que el programa progrese ya que es una gran chance para que los artistas se hagan conocer”.

[2] Nunca mires atrás.

Cook nunca miró hacia atrás desde que Idol le dio aquel magistral éxito. “Honestamente, amo lo que hago. Tuve tantos trabajos raros en los últimos 15 años. Fui la mascota de un viejo restaurante rural.... disfrazado de abeja. Limpié salas de cine, fui barman, pinté departamentos... este es el mejor trabajo que he tenido”.

[3] Si te dan la oportunidad, aprovéchala.

En la última temporada de American Idol, Cook interpretó su último sencillo, una balada llamada The Last Song I'll Write for You (La última canción que escribiré para ti). Luego reveló que la hizo por su propia cuenta, sin compañía discográfica. A juzgar por la ovación que recibió por esta canción, se puede decir que su regreso no está tan lejos. “Regresar y que reciban la canción de esa manera... fue increíble. Con respecto a tener libertad para crear, ahora tengo la capacidad y los recursos necesarios para hacer cosas nuevas que jamás pude hacer”.

[4] Ten un buen aspecto, pero no te esfuerces demasiado.

“No pensar en el hecho de que estoy ejercitando es la mejor manera de lograrlo. Juego al sóftbol, nado, juego al racquetball o al tenis. No me llevo bien con la rutina, pero intento mantenerme activo todos los días... de verdad lo intento”.

[5] Ama el escenario.

La confianza es algo necesario para embellecer cualquier escenario. Sin embargo, para Cook subir al escenario es como convertirse en una persona diferente. “Estoy más cómodo arriba del escenario que fuera de él”, explica. “Hay algo realmente poderoso en estar arriba de un escenario, tocar tu música y sentir que tienes a la audiencia en la palma de tu mano. Fuera del escenario, soy solo un tonto y tímido muchacho”.

[6] Sé vulnerable... humano.

Cook todavía no logra no ponerse nervioso, lo cual es bueno porque lo hace más accesible. “Mastico chicle arriba del escenario. He tragado chicle un par de veces y lo he escupido accidentalmente otras tantas. Intento no hacerlo cuando estoy grabando, pero lo hice aproximadamente un 50 o 60 por ciento del tiempo cuando estaba grabando mi último álbum. Así que, si lllegas a escuchar el sonido de alguien masticando chicle...”.

[7] Trabaja duro en lo que haces.

Cook escribió 86 canciones para su último álbum This Loud Morning. Solo 12 quedaron en el álbum. Cook dice: “Quizás escriba menos para el próximo [álbum].... no más, eso espero”
